Fat of The Land
Real Food is food that was made by God and is the fat of the land. Simply Real Foods is food that is grown and prepared very simply. I’m a very simple woman, who leads a busy life and I like meals that I can prepare quickly and simply with few ingredients that require little fuss, but leave us nourished and completely satisfied. The goals that direct my cooking, are food that is traditional, organic and nutrient dense. Food that heals the soul, the body and the land. Foods that are full of “fat” (or brix) from the land.
“And take your father and your households, and come unto me; and I will give you the good of the land of Egypt, and ye shall eat the fat of the land.” Genesis 45:18 It is believed that the original Hebrew for “fat” in this verse is something close to Brix.
Brix refers to the nutrient density of a food. Rex Harrill in an interview with Wise Traditions, states that “True Brix measures a combination of sugar, amino acids, oils, proteins, flavonoids, minerals and other goodies. Sugar is merely one of the components of Brix.”
I believe we should have a relationship with the food we eat. A relationship in growing it, collecting it or processing it. I believe knowing ones food source is very important, especially in the day we live. If you can’t grow, collect & process your own, then you ought to know the person who does….as best as you possibly can. I believe that everyone ought to be able to prepare a meal from scratch using foods that are simply real.
Preparing and eating food is an art. For me it is a simple art. I believe that collecting ones resources, and preparing meals for friends and loved ones, is an act of love. To feed someone well prepared food is to provide sustenance to their body and soul. It connects us at the heart and brings unity to families and communities like no other act. It’s a time for relaxing and giving thanks. The entire “fast food” movement has created an on the road mentality that has defragmented families and communities.
Real food has defined cultures and people groups for millennia. The different people groups that settle in America bring with them their own cultural cuisine that has shaped our country. My own grandmother was from Austrian Hungarian and she brought with her the love of earthy food that has been passed down for two generations. My maternal grandparents were farmers and they gave me the love for the land and the love for animals that nurture and feed us. My parents taught me the love of gardening and “putting up” the bounty of my hands.
Real food is full of fat, flavor and nourishment. Finding local resources that provide you the purest source of food possible is one of the goals I have. Not all of us can “afford” to eat the same, but we can prepare Simply Real Foods that provide nourishment to our families. It’s my hope to provide you with some of those simple recipes that are budget friendly and completely nourishing and satiating!
Keep your focus on real fats. Fat that is naturally occurring in nature; butter, lard, animal fats. A meal that is filled with real fats are filling and satisfying. And will provide for you the nourishment you need without a lot of fillers that cause weight gain and disease.
