We ate fried oysters the other night. I smashed up some toasted sourdough. Dipped the fresh shucked oysters in egg and coated them in bread crumbs. Then I simply fried them in lard.
They were really delicious! I ate them with roasted peppers, tomatoes and eggplant that I’d “put up”.
It was a very nutrient dense meal! This post is part of Fight Back Friday. Hop on over to see what other folks are cooking up!
| Oysters NutrientsRaw oysters were once considered to be particularly good for invalids, and with good reason, it turns out. They are high in Omega-3 fatty acid as well as taurin, two of today’s health buzzwords. And in 1956, the British government released a report in which their nutritional value is compared to — and exceeds — that of milk. Oysters contain more proteins and carbohydrates than milk, essential minerals and vitamins, but almost none of the fat for which milk is famous. Gulping down a dozen oysters will set the dieter back fewer than 100 calories, on average. |

yummy- oysters, well and all shellfish for that matter, are amazing, delicious, filling and extremely nutritious foods!
Hm, I have some oysters I need to do something with. I’m a chicken when it comes to oysters, no way could I slurp them down like some do. But they’re so nutrient dense and full of good stuff like zinc! I’ll bet I could do fried, though. Hm.
